Saw 3D
Yesterday it was announced the title of SAW VII would actually be the incredibly silly SAW 3D THE TRAPS COME ALIVE, which sounded just like a title mashed with a tagline- and lo and behold, that's what it was. Read on for more!
Shock Til You Drop spoke with producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules and here's what they had to say:
Koules says, "'The Traps Come Alive' is simply a tagline. It's a tagline that was added in and misinterpreted. Most of our movies have taglines. One of the things we talked about during the campaign - especially with shooting in the 3D process, the traps really do come alive and we wanted that clear in the campaign. But the title of the film is SAW 3D."
"We talked about doing six in 3D, but the technology wasn't there to meet our needs. We like to shoot these movies tight, fast and not long shots. Technology caught up to us and we took the movie and literally designed traps for the 3D." Koules says it would have been too cumbersome to call the film Saw VII 3D and wouldn't have the impact they wanted to make. "It was such a process in 3D, so much hard work was put in. Saw VII 3D is too much. This is like a new movie. There are, I think, eleven traps in this movie. To have that many traps, it's just a completely different experience for the hardcore fans."
Burg adds, "The only reason there is a tagline is we didn't want to confuse people and make them think we re-did the original Saw in 3D. This is brand-new 3D technology. We talked about shooting six and then converting it in 3D, but we didn't like the quality of it."
As far as SAW 3D's Comic-Con plans, Koules says, "It's going to be different than what we've done before," says Koules. "We're going to be at Comic-Con but we're not in Comic-Con." The footage that was originally intended to be shown wasn't approved for Comic-Con audiences.
As per what you can expect to see October 22, Burg says, "SAW 3D is SAW on steroids. It's that good. I don't want to over-hype it, but it takes SAW to the next level. Greutert is the most talented of the SAW directors we've worked with."
